Moment dog walker is fatally attacked by migrant in 'psychotic state' minutes after landlord was stabbed

Published: 14:26, 16 July 2026 | Updated: 14:51, 16 July 2026 Jurors were played shocking footage of a 'psychotic' Afghan migrant's knife rampage in which he killed a dog walker and left his own landlord fighting for his life. CCTV captured Dawood Safi, 28, brandishing the blade which he used to kill Wayne Broadhurst, 49, having already used it to attack his landlord and a young boy. Eyewitnesses said Safi looked ‘possessed’ as he fatally thrust the weapon into Mr Broadhurst's neck and chest around 5pm on 27 October last year in Uxbridge, West London. Minutes before Safi had knifed his 45-year-old landlord Shahzad Farrukh, who was only saved by the brave intervention of a 14-year-old teenager and neighbours. Footage of Safi, who arrived in Britain 'concealed in a lorry' in 2020, shows terrified members of the public trying to ward him off after the 'ferocious' and 'senseless killing'.   Safi can later be seen walking with the knife brandished openly in his hand in the direction of a different young boy who manages to run off. Uniformed and plain clothes officers who were called to the scene then approached Safi and tasered him.  Safi circled in the yellow running towards another teenager who managed to escape  Safi is warded off by members of the public during his rampage in Uxbridge, London in October Dawood Safi, 28, killed Wayne Broadhurst moments after he stabbed his landlord and a boy Wayne Broadhurst, 49, was killed by Safi while walking his dog in West London last October  Just two days before the attack doctors ruled Safi shouldn't be detained in a hospital after he asked them for help.  On 25 October Safi presented himself at his local surgery near Hayes, west London and then visited Hillingdon Hospital. He told doctors he was being persecuted by family members and was worried about his addiction to online pornography.  But an approved mental health practitioner concluded 'there was no evidence of a mental disorder requiring attention in hospital.'  However, after he killed Mr Broadhurst four psychiatrists reviewed Safi and agreed he was in a 'psychotic' state during the attack. Because of the ruling of the psychiatrists, prosecutors dropped a charge of murder against Safi and accepted a guilty plea to manslaughter. Safi also accepts causing serious bodily harm to Mr Farrukh and actual bodily harm to the teenage boy. However, he denies attempting to kill the pair and is standing trial at Southwark Crown Court for two counts of attempted murder before Mrs Justice Cutts.  A police officer armed with a Taser chasing Safi moments before he is arrested for the attack Safi pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility. However, for the charge of attempted murder diminished responsibility cannot be used a defence.  Safi's lawyers claimed he was unable to form any intent, but Jonathan Laidlaw KC prosecuting, told the jury they could be sure Safi had formed an intention even if it was a 'psychotic' one. Mr Laidlaw said: 'A psychotic intent to kill is none the less an intent to kill. 'The defendant took up a knife capable of killing. It is not just any knife it is a heavy, sharp and dangerous implement. 'The defendant launched an unannounced attack on Mr Farrukh who was unarmed.  'The defendant during that attack on the landlord made a concerted effort to kill him stabbing him to the areas of the neck, chest, and back.'  The 14-year-old boy said Safi swung the knife at his head but missed by two inches.  Safi then discarded the knife but picked it up again to attack Mr Broadhurst, which Mr Laidlaw argued revealed his intent to continue his rampage.  Sorry we are not currently accepting comments on this article.
