Moment British tourist is attacked and wounded by sword-wielding martial arts instructor 'following road rage rampage' in Thailand

The holidaymaker reportedly went on a rampage following a road rage incident with a motorcyclist on the resort island of Phuket on June 13.  He yelled at the motorist and allegedly threatened residents with an iron pipe before Muay Thai and sword-fighting instructor Waikoon Promsuwan, 50, confronted him at 11.30pm.   Chaotic footage of the incident shows the shirtless man holding the weapon as he taunted Waikoon and called him a 'p****'. Waikoon then charged at him with a knife, slashing the tourist's arm. The British man was later seen with his arm covered in blood while walking away. Police said no official complaint had been filed yet, as the tourist had returned to the UK for further treatment. Police Lieutenant Colonel Kanen Somrak of the Chalong Police Station said authorities were trying to reach the British man through diplomatic channels to obtain his statement. Waikoon said he regretted attacking the foreigner but claimed he had no choice and acted to protect his wife and children. He added: 'I think that with more people involved, bad behaviour becomes more prevalent.  'Regarding last night's incident, I feel terrible for hurting someone, but on the other hand, I'm proud and happy to be a voice for Thai people. 'We are not afraid if you come at us with bad intentions, but be aware that your actions can also negatively impact other tourists.' The island of Phuket's combination of idyllic beaches and colourful nightlife has made it one of the world's most popular holiday destinations. However, the influx of tourists has caused a surge in violence, depravity and petty crime - with many locals now regretting throwing open the doors to boost the economy. The recent incident comes after a British tourist was attacked by locals after being accused of trying to steal drinks from a supermarket in Thailand. Furious staff set upon the holidaymaker after he and his girlfriend were accused of trying to flee the shop with two energy drinks without paying. Footage captured the British man appearing to argue with two Thai men outside a 7-Eleven in the coastal destination of Pattaya on May 24. He then attempted to mount his motorbike, but staff were seen kicking the vehicle and grabbing hold of him, sparking a brawl in a car park. No comments have so far been submitted.
