Moment arsonist sets fire to £45k Mercedes-Benz in driveway - as he is jailed for more than three years

Published: 18:16, 30 June 2026 | Updated: 18:23, 30 June 2026 An arsonist has been jailed for more than three years after setting fire to a £45,000 Mercedes-Benz.  Mikha Morrison, 27, was caught on CCTV pouring petrol from a green jerry can over the black 200 model Mercedes-Benz, which was parked outside a house in Great Billing, Northampton.  The footage captured Morrison fleeing as the car is engulfed in flames in the early hours of February 15 this year.  Terrified residents called 999 as the blaze spread to a Kia Stonic parked alongside the Mercedes.  Emergency services raced to the scene and evacuated nearby homes as they battled to get the fire under control. Nobody was injured in the attack.  Police launched a manhunt for the arsonist, who was later caught when officers spotted Morrison in a taxi in nearby Wellingborough Road.  A rucksack containing the jerry can was found nearby, and officers reported that Morrison himself smelt of petrol. Morrison went on to admit one count of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.  CCTV footage captured Morrison pouring petrol onto the vehicle from a jerry can  Morrison then fled the scene, as the blaze engulfs the Mercedes-Benz and eventually spread to the Kia Sonic parked alongside the vehicle  Earlier this month, he was jailed for three years and four months at Northampton Crown Court. Detective Constable Abigail Jones, of Northamptonshire Police, said: 'This was an incredibly dangerous incident, and we are extremely fortunate that Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service responded so quickly and were able to prevent the fire from spreading further. 'If not, the consequences could have been far more severe. 'I am pleased to see him sentenced to more than three years in prison and I hope he spends his time inside reflecting on his actions in order to make better choices when he is released. 'Finally, I would like to thank the victim in this case for his support throughout the investigation. 'This incident had a huge impact on him and I hope the conclusion of this case and significant sentence provides him with some comfort.' No comments have so far been submitted.
