Contracts offered up by the Ministry of Defence have demanded arms companies commit to "tackling eco-inequality" in the terms of multi-million-pound deals.

Top firms in cyber defence must abide by a set of stringent terms set out by Whitehall workers, including vowing to "fight climate change".

The corporations are judged by "key performance indicators" set out in Government papers back in 2025.

The MoD's "social value model", which firms must abide by, stresses the importance of "wellbeing", including physical and mental health in the workplace.

The model also emphasises effective social distancing, remote and flexible working as well as sustainable travel solutions.

"Across Whitehall, billions of pounds of public contracts have been quietly captured by a woke agenda," top Tory Alex Burghart told the Mail on Sunday.

"While our adversaries are rearming, Labour has made 'tackling eco-inequality' a key performance indicator for defence contracts.

"It is completely unserious and at this rate, we'll end up with Net Zero defences."

Meanwhile, employees at farming firms' workforce must be made up of "50 per cent women or non-binary staff" while education companies must exhibit a "zero gender pay gap".

The model also demands a "time-bound action plan to ensure employers have a workforce that proportionately reflects the diversity of the communities in which they operate, at every level".

The quota demands "multiple women, or others with protected characteristics, in shortlists for recruitment and promotions".

An MoD spokesman said: "We are applying the social value model so it is more relevant for UK defence, ensuring contracts are appropriately incentivising suppliers and helping drive growth."

The same model demands contractors "grant community-led initiatives relevant to the contract", including better transport links as well as cutting crime and homelessness rates.

It also sets out the demand that firms must assist with English language proficiency and help "meaningful social mixing among people with different backgrounds".

Last week, the parliamentary spending watchdog, the Public Accounts Committee, warned that the MoD was exposing £1.5billion of public funds to fraud each year.

As a result, the committee called for "radical change" to soothe the deteriorating state of the public purse, while the Government is hit with demands to boost defence spending.

The report claims the MoD is "achieving little" in its response to hundreds of allegations of suspected economic crime.

The Public Accounts Committee further adds there is inadequate focus or leadership regarding the massive fraud risk exposed to the department.

But, two weeks ago, Sir Keir Starmer approved an £18billion increase in defence spending as part of his fightback against the potential Westminster return of Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham.

In the coming days, British armed forces are expected to receive a salary bump across all levels despite Whitehall still coming under fire for inadequate investment.
