By WILL POTTER, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER Published: 17:55, 15 July 2026 | Updated: 17:59, 15 July 2026 The husband of a Canadian woman who is set to be deported for allegedly slapping a teenage girl wearing MAGA-branded clothing says she is enduring hellish conditions inside a squalid immigration facility.  Kaitlyn Tracey, 33, is locked up at New Jersey's notoriously grim immigration facility Delaney Hall, after being detained over an alleged assault on a teen during Fourth of July celebrations on the Jersey Shore.  Police said Tracey confronted a group of teenagers who were wearing 'patriotic colored' clothes, which were reportedly emblazoned with 'Trump' and 'ICE', before she allegedly slapped one of the teens.  Tracey's husband Matthew Geroni, 42, told the Daily Mail that his wife has been stuck in limbo in an immigration facility ever since. In their brief conversation since she was detained, he said she is 'very upset.'  'She said when she was brought there, she was left in a room where she had to sleep on a metal bench with all the lights on,' Geroni said, adding that his wife was stuck in the same room for an entire 24 hours shortly after arriving.  'She said the conditions in there are horrible... She was obviously very upset.' Geroni added that most of the other inmates were Spanish-speakers, making it harder for his wife to chat properly with them about her predicament.  Geroni accused the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department of 'lying' about the circumstances around his wife's arrest, disputing claims that she tried to 'evade' cops at the scene.  He said the group of teenagers 'provoked' Tracey and were causing mayhem on the Jersey Shore boardwalk, alleging that they 'pushed and shoved' her during the confrontation.  Kaitlyn Tracey, 33, a Canadian woman who accused of slapped a teenage girl for wearing patriotic MAGA-branded clothing over the July Fourth weekend, is set to be deported. 'They were wearing ICE merch,' he said.  Police claimed that Tracey slapped one of the teenagers, but Geroni said his wife was the one trying to get away from the group of teens and avoid them.  He said police at the scene let Tracey leave and described it as a 'nothing-burger', but said investigators then reviewed a short surveillance clip of the confrontation that led to a warrant being issued for her arrest, which Geroni said was 'out of context.'  Tracey was initially held at the Ocean County jail before being moved to Delaney Hall, an ICE immigration center in New Jersey that has been hit with reports of squalid conditions.   Geroni said that Tracey was almost freed from the Ocean County jail before being hit with an immigration detainer at the last minute.  Police said Tracey slapped a teenager on the Jersey Shore boardwalk during Fourth of July celebrations - but her husband alleged to the Daily Mail that she was the one who was 'pushed and shoved' by a group of teens  Geroni said the teenagers were 'provoking' people while wearing 'ICE merchandise', which he said clashed with his wife's 'punk' clothes  Geroni said that Tracey was almost freed from the Ocean County jail before being hit with an immigration detainer at the last minute, and she now faces being deported back to Canada Geroni's social media also shows clips of his wife performing music in a punk rock band Geroni, who often shares social media posts attacking Republicans, including wishing for Mitch McConnell to die and for the Trump family to get cancer, said he believes Donald Trump is partially to blame for the hostility. 'Trump is emboldening these people. They're proud of their hate, not love,' he said.  When asked how he squares this stance with his social media posts about McConnell, Geroni said it was 'not the same', and answered: 'What are we even talking about here bro?'  Geroni's social media also shows clips of his wife performing music in a punk rock band. It is unclear what she does for a living.   When Tracey was arrested, Geroni took to social media to share a GoFundMe to help his wife get an attorney and be released, but the fundraiser was pulled down after it was reported. He claimed the fundraiser was pulled down due to it being reported by 'MAGA people', however GoFundMe policies dictate that fundraisers are not allowed if they are raising money for someone accused of crimes. Geroni accused the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department of 'lying' about the circumstances around his wife's arrest, disputing claims that she tried to 'evade' cops at the scene Tracey's husband Matthew Geroni previously shared a video on TikTok wishing cancer on President Trump's entire family - including his youngest grandchildren Geroni often shares social media posts attacking Republicans, including a recent post wishing for Mitch McConnell to die following the senator's hopsitalization Geroni said he and his wife love their lives in Ocean Beach, but he would move to Canada if needed. 'I would do anything to be with my wife,' he said.  He said he has struggled to contact his wife and has only spoken to her briefly since she was detained, and she told him that she was one of the only Canadians in the facility.  Delaney Hall has been hit with allegations that detainees are mistreated and suffer inhumane conditions, and Geroni said his wife was left in a holding room for a day when she first arrived with the lights on the whole time.  'She said there were two other women in there that had been in there over 24 hours at the time she got in,' he said. 'She expressed how badly she felt for them,' he continued. 'She was already uncomfortable, and they had been in there at least double' the amount of time. 'After she got into the actual facility, she said that everyone in there was very nice to her, as far as the other people' who were detained, he added.
