Milan and Allegri considering deal for former Juventus midfielder: The Pros and Cons

Reports in Italy claim that Milan are considering a potential summer transfer for Fiorentina midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, who is well known to head coach Massimiliano Allegri from their time together at Juventus.

The Rossoneri look set to achieve their pre-season goal of qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League after missing out on Europe altogether at the end of  the 2024-25 campaign. Once a top-four finish is confirmed, Milan are expected to add depth to their squad ahead of their return to Europe in 2026-27. 

According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Fiorentina’s Fagioli could be a potential option for Milan in midfield. 

The Pros and Cons behind Milan signing Fagioli

There are a number of benefits behind the idea of signing Fagioli: He is capable of playing in multiple midfield roles, including as a deep-lying player in front of the defence or as more of a box-to-box player. He is also Italian and Milan do have a lack of homegrown talents in their first team squad. 

Fagioli also has the ideal combination of Serie A experience – 95 top flight appearances to his name – and room to still grow having recently turned 25. He is a player that Allegri knows well and rated highly during their time together at Juventus and perhaps most importantly, Fagioli and Allegri share the same agent. 

According to Calciomercato, Fagioli has plenty of interest from abroad, including in LaLiga, and Fiorentina could potentially be minded to send him away from Italy in order to avoid strengthening a league rival if they are to sell him this summer. 

Additionally, Milan already have a player who is fairly similar in profile to Fagioli in the form of Ardon Jashari, who has been limited to just 10 Serie A appearances this season despite being one of the division’s most expensive signings during the last summer transfer window.

Whether Jashari is given a ‘second chance’ after a difficult start to life in San Siro, almost immediately hampered by injury, remains to be seen.
