Mike Tindall has offered a charming insight into his marriage with Zara, revealing the endearing nicknames the couple use for one another in private.

The former England rugby captain revealed he and Princess Anne's daughter affectionately refer to each other as "munchkin".

The pair, who wed in 2011, also have a more casual set of nicknames for everyday use.

"If it's nicknames, it's Z and Mikey-T," Mike explained to Woman & Home magazine.

The couple share three children: Mia, 12, Lena, seven, and Lucas, five.

Mike acknowledged managing the demands of parenthood alongside professional commitments presents its challenges.

"It can be stressful," he admitted. "You're trying to do everything all at once, and that's hard. But you find a way."

The father-of-three emphasised maintaining a sense of enjoyment remains paramount despite the pressures of daily life.

"The whole point is to find a way and get it done while having fun at the same time. That's what we try to do anyway," he added.

For Mike, maintaining a light-hearted approach remains essential to their successful partnership.

"You've always got to see the funny side!" he declared.

The Good, the Bad and the Rugby podcast host also touched upon his wife's fiercely competitive streak. She has competed at the highest levels of equestrian eventing for many years.

"Zara is competitive in everything. I think that's individual mindset," Mike observed.

The Olympic medal-winning equestrian apparently brings this determination to all pursuits, a quality that has clearly served her well both in professional competition and in family life with the former international sportsman.

And when it comes to culinary prowess, Mike readily concedes defeat to his wife.

"She's an amazing cook, better than me 100 per cent and better on the barbecue," he acknowledged, although he confessed to enjoying time spent at the grill regardless.

"What man doesn't? It makes you feel even manlier cooking meat.

"But washing up and clearing up, that's my space," he added.

Regarding their children's sporting futures, Mike believes young Lucas will likely follow his rugby enthusiasm, while both daughters have taken to riding like their mother.
