Mets designate reliever Luis García for assignment

NEW YORK — In the first acknowledgement of an offseason move that hasn’t worked out as planned, the New York Mets have designated right-handed reliever Luis García for assignment. The veteran García, who had been signed over the winter to a major-league deal worth $1.75 million, posted a 7.11 ERA over six appearances.New York recalled righty Joey Gerber from Triple-A Syracuse to take García’s spot on the roster.Advertisement
