Brits could be in for a scorching bank holiday weekend with temperatures potentially hitting the mid-20s, forecasters have revealed. After Wednesday's miserable conditions saw temperatures "widely below average today, with a brisk north-westerly wind making it feel even cooler for many", the Met Office is predicting a dramatic turnaround. The chilly weather made it feel like single figures across parts of the country. Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said warmer weather is on the way for the May 25 bank holiday. "By the end of next week and the start of the bank holiday weekend, temperatures could be above average, possibly in the low 20s for some areas," she revealed. The warming trend is expected as high pressure moves in to dominate the weather pattern. "Whatever position that high pressure brings – all of them bring less cloud, a little bit more sunshine, and lighter winds, which means temperatures will be on the rise through next week," Shuttleworth explained. Southern areas could see the best of the weather from Thursday onwards. "We could be closer to the mid 20s, possibly, for some areas, in the South East, by the bank holiday weekend," the meteorologist added. The Met Office's long-range forecast suggests changeable conditions will give way to more settled weather as high pressure builds from the south. However, Shuttleworth warned there is still "a little bit of uncertainty" about exactly where the hottest temperatures will hit.
