The Met Office said on Friday that there is no chance of rain in Karachi today, following torrential rain in the city a day earlier caused by a strong westerly system.

Rain-related fatalities rose to six overnight after one more person died from electrocution in the Gulistan-i-Jauhar area of the city, said rescue services.

At least five people were killed on Thursday as heavy rain lashed the metropolis, while the city administration declared an emergency.

According to police and rescue officials, the deaths occurred in separate incidents: four people died due to electrocution while a fifth was killed due to a wall collapse amid the heavy rainfall.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the minimum temperature in Karachi on Friday was recorded at 16 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature expected to be between 27-29°C. The current humidity level is at 76 per cent and the wind is currently blowing from the east.

The PMD forecast a partly cloudy day and said the weather is likely to be pleasant.

Heavy rainfall hit the city on Thursday, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, with some areas experiencing rain overnight. Nazimabad recorded the highest rainfall at 97.4 mm as of 8 am today, followed by Surjani Town (67 mm) and Keamari (66 mm).

Bahria Town, Orangi Town and PAF Faisal Base also recorded 50mm or more of rainfall.

The PMD had forecast chances of rain and thunderstorms in Karachi on Thursday, as well as other areas of Sindh from April 2-4, as a result of a new westerly wave from Balochistan.

A rain emergency had been declared in Karachi in view of the situation.
