Britain's warm spell is set to be briefly interrupted by rain, with the Met Office confirming a shift to more unsettled weather in the coming days. The forecaster said that while many parts of the UK are seeing dry and settled weather at the moment, conditions will turn "more changeable," bringing an increasing chance of showers and longer spells of rain, as well as the risk of strong winds at times. In its long-range forecast from May 1 to May 10, the Met Office warned the UK will start to see a changeable picture develop, with sunshine and dry interludes increasingly broken up by passing showers. Some areas may also wake to early morning fog. Temperatures are expected to stay close to or slightly above normal during this period, and will rise further as June approaches. "Some dry spells with some warm sunshine are still likely at times too, with a risk of a few short-lived early morning fog patches," the forecast reads. "Temperatures are likely to be close to or slightly above normal." Towards the middle and end of May, "showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, heavy in places with a risk of strong winds," the Met Office added. This week will also see a colder and more unsettled spell gripping parts of the UK before temperatures rise again by Wednesday. The Met Office's latest forecast says showers will push across much of the country on Monday. The rain is expected to turn heavy, particularly in Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the risk of thunder and gusty winds developing throughout the day. Clear spells are expected to allow temperatures to drop sharply too, with rural areas at risk of falling to around 0C, bringing a touch of frost in places. The unsettled theme continues into Tuesday, with cloud, drizzle and outbreaks of rain spreading across the UK, accompanied by a brisk northeasterly wind. The Met Office says temperatures will struggle, particularly in eastern areas, where it will feel notably cooler than in recent days. Conditions are expected to settle later in the week, with high pressure gradually returning.
