Melania Trump mediated reunification of seven children with their families in Ukraine

US First Lady Melania Trump has mediated an agreement between Russia and Ukraine on the reunification of six Ukrainian children with their families, while another child will leave to be reunited with relatives later this month, the White House said. "Reunifying children with their loved ones in this region of the world remains one of the most important global issues today. I am encouraged that both sides remain committed to ongoing cooperation, raising the safety and well-being of children above this abhorrent war," the First Lady said in a statement. Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova previously said seven children from six families will soon be reunited with their loved ones in Ukraine and in third countries. She thanked Melania Trump for her active participation in the work of reuniting children with their families. In October 2025, Melania Trump said her team was working directly with representatives of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the safe reunification of children with their families in Ukraine and Russia. She said that Russia is cooperating in good faith with the United States in this area, demonstrating its willingness to provide "objective and detailed information." Later Lvova-Belova thanked Melania Trump for her attention to the families affected by the Ukrainian conflict and expressed hope for continued cooperation in the interests of children.
