piramitlerinde bir saldırgan, etrafa rastgele ateş açtı. Saldırıda bir Kanadalı turist yaşamını yitirirdi, 6 kişi yaralandı Olaylın ardından saldırgan aynı silahla intihar etti. Yetkililerden yapılan açıklamada, "İlk belirlemelere göre bir kişi olay yerinde ateş açtıktan sonra yaşamına son verdi. Ne yazık ki Kanada vatandaşı bir kadın hayatını kaybetti.” ifadesine yer verildi. Meksika Devlet Başkanı Claudia Sheinbaum, olaya ilişkin açıklamasında, hayatını kaybeden turistin ailesine baş sağlığı dileğinde bulundu. Sheinbaum, "Güvenlik Kabinesi'ne olayların tüm yönleriyle soruşturulması ve gerekli tüm desteklerin sağlanması talimatını verdim. İçişleri ve Kültür bakanlıklarından ekipler, yerel yetkililerle destek ve koordinasyon sağlamak üzere bölgeye yönlendirildi." diye konuştu. Saldırı, sosyal medyada paylaşılan görüntülere de yansıdı. Görüntülerde, saldırganın Ay Piramidi’nin tepesindeyken silah seslerinin duyulduğu, bir kadının "Polisi çağırın" diye bağırdığı ve aralarında yabancı turistlerin de bulunduğu ziyaretçilerin panik içinde bölgeden uzaklaştığı görüldü. Olayın ardından Ulusal Muhafızlar ve Meksika Eyalet Polisi bölgede geniş çaplı güvenlik önlemleri alarak arkeolojik alanı kordon altına aldı.
