According to Tuttosport, Crystal Palace have recently sounded out Juventus striker Jonathan David, potentially paving the way for a swap deal involving Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Crystal Palace’s interest in Juventus striker David might allow the two clubs to discuss a swap deal in the final week of the summer transfer window.
As reported by Tuttosport, Palace’s striker Mateta has refused to sign a contract extension beyond 2027, forcing the Premier League club to lower their demands from €35m to €25m.
Tuttosport notes that Juventus also value David at €25m, so on paper there is room for the two clubs to discuss a swap.
Juventus are looking for a new centre-forward despite the purchase of Randal Kolo Muani last summer.
The French striker returned to Turin from PSG for €38m plus €12m add-ons, but the Bianconeri have always been looking for two new strikers for 2026-27. Furthermore, Luciano Spalletti’s recent negative remarks about Kolo Muani only reinforced Juventus’ need to sign another centre-forward.
Aside from the potential negotiations for Mateta, Juventus have reportedly resumed interest in Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth and also have Manchester United’s Josha Zirkzee on their agenda, with Spalletti appearing to favour a classic No.9.
The Old Lady saw Dusan Vlahovic leave at the end of his contract in June and loaned Lois Openda to Lyon.
David scored eight goals in 44 appearances with Juventus in his first season in Turin and is not part of Spalletti’s plans for the new campaign.
