Mason Greenwood drops transfer hint after ex-Man Utd star branded 'shameful'

Mason Greenwood has confirmed that he wants to stay at Marseille next season, despite being linked with a move away . Greenwood, 24, is finishing off his second season in France after Manchester United sold him for a fee in the region of £27million. The forward was named in Ligue 1's Team of the Year on Monday after scoring 16 goals and providing six assists for sixth-placed Marseille in 31 games. But Greenwood was recently branded a 'disgrace' by French World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry for his 'pathetic' performances. Marseille have slipped down the table of late and will need to beat Rennes in their final game on Sunday in order to qualify for the Conference League. But despite being linked with Juventus , Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid , the one-time England international is determined to put things right at the Stade Velodrome next season. "This season has been difficult at times for us as a team, especially in the last few months," Greenwood admitted at Monday's awards ceremony. "But, individually, I think I've had a good season. Ligue 1 is an amazing league. We play some incredible games and, to my mind, it's one of the best leagues I have played in. I hope I will be able to stay put here." Although Greenwood left United in July 2024, he hadn't made an appearance for the Premier League club for more than two years. In October 2022 - while he was suspended by United - he was charged attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behaviour. Those charges were dropped in February 2023. Greenwood is under contract at Marseille for another three seasons. But Dugarry, who played for the French giants between 1998 and 2000, unloaded on the 24-year-old and told him to 'get out' earlier this month. Speaking on the Rothen s'enflamme podcast , Dugarry fumed: "You are the leader of this team, everyone depends on you. When you're not there, everyone feels your absence. "And what do you give back after all those sacrifices? This? You're a disgrace, get out. That's the money you'll make for the club, but no one will cry for you. "What he did against Nantes is shameful. I saw him walking around. At times I just looked at him and he was pretending. He doesn't care."
