Marcus Rashford's dream could be about to come true with Man Utd's stance clear

Marcus Rashford's wish to stay at Barcelona and lift more silverware could be fulfilled by Manchester United as the Reds look to sell the forward in a permanent transfer. Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan last summer, with a £26million option included in the agreement to make the move permanent at the end of the current campaign. The 28-year-old has repeatedly made it clear since arriving at Barcelona that he is keen to remain in Catalonia for the long term and secure further honours with the club. He will go some way to achieving that ambition if they overcome fierce rivals Real Madrid to win La Liga on Sunday. Hansi Flick's side currently sit top of the table on 88 points, with Real Madrid 11 points adrift with four matches remaining. "You see with the team last season, they have a young ambitious team and I want to add my qualities, my personality, improve the team and help them win." Earlier, in comments to the club's own media, Rashford had said: "It's a club where people's dreams come true and they win big prizes. And what the club stands for really means a lot to me as well. It feels like home and this is a big factor in my choice to come here." He reiterated those feelings in January after coming off the bench in the 3-2 El Clasico victory to win the Spanish Supercopa in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. "I am very happy today," Rashford told reporters during the celebrations. "It's the first trophy [with Barça] and it's always the best feeling to win the first one. I hope now we can win some more. I hope it's not the last one." Rashford left boyhood club United under a cloud, having fallen out with then-head coach Ruben Amorim and been dropped for the Manchester Derby in December 2024. He then declared he was ready for a fresh challenge and joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season. Since arriving in Spain, Rashford has contributed 13 goals and 14 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. But his form has dipped in the second half of the campaign, casting doubt over whether sporting director Deco will push for a permanent transfer. Some reports suggest the Catalan club are instead hoping to negotiate a reduced fee or secure another loan arrangement. But United's stance remains clear - they will not loan him out again and are looking for a permanent sale. Barcelona will therefore need to pay the option-to-buy fee or Rashford will head back to United for pre-season. The Catalans may attempt to negotiate that figure down but, for now, United are giving that idea short shrift. Regardless of what United and Barcelona's bosses ultimately decide in the summer, there is no question that Rashford would have partly managed to achieve what he set out to do, to play his part in bringing trophies at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
