The National Lottery has minted over 8,000 millionaires across the UK since its first draw in 1994.

This means there are 121 lottery millionaires for every million people or one for every 8,279 Britons.

The National Lottery has also revealed the regional breakdown, with some areas being more lucky than others when it comes to getting the matching numbers.

GB News has weighed the figures against each region's population, revealing how many millionaires each area has produced per million people, ranking from most lucky, to least.

Luckiest area: North East of England

The North East region tops the table of luckiest area with the most millionaires per capita.

The region had 385 lottery millionaires made in the past 32 years, which corresponds to 146 millionaires per one million people, the highest rate anywhere in the UK.

This means one in every 6,875 North East local has become a lottery millionaire.

Second luckiest: Wales

Second luckiest region is Wales, boasting 450 millionaires minted since 1994.

Weighed against its population, this means 145 millionaires per million people, only one lucky winner behind the North East.

This equates to one lottery millionaire in every 6,901 Welsh person.

A Welsh mother-of-two is set to receive a £12million jackpot after a shopkeeper discarded her ticket, the lottery's operator Allwyn announced earlier this month.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

National lottery tickets

Third luckiest: Scotland

Scotland comes in third luckiest region for lottery millionaires.

In absolute terms, Scotland has had 744 lottery millionaires since the draw began.

This means 136 lottery millionaires are made per million Scots or one in every 7,365 people winning big.

A lottery ticket purchased in Aberdeenshire worth £1million has remained unclaimed for almost a fortnight - with a potential 745th Scottish millionaire to be made.

Fourth luckiest area: Yorkshire and the Humber

Yorkshire and the Humber ranks fourth luckiest.

In absolute terms, Yorkshire has had 737 lottery millionaires since the draw began.

This means 134 lottery millionaires are made per million Yorkshire residents, or one in every 7,437 people winning big.

A lottery ticket purchased in Wakefield worth £1million has remained unclaimed since the draw on August 5, with a potential 738th Yorkshire millionaire yet to come forward.

Fifth luckiest region: the North West of England

At 130 millionaires per million people, the North West sits in fifth place.

It has produced 967 millionaires in absolute terms, one of the highest totals anywhere in the UK.

In practical terms, one in every 7,676 North West residents has scooped a life-changing sum.

The region has form for going unclaimed too: two separate £1million Lotto tickets, bought in Tameside and Cheshire East for draws in July 2026, sat unclaimed for weeks while the National Lottery searched for their mystery owners.

Sixth luckiest area: South East of England

Sixth place goes to the South East, despite it having the single highest millionaire count of any UK region at 1,177.

A population of over 9 million drags the rate down to 126.6 per million, or one in every 7,897 people.

It is a reminder that size doesn't guarantee luck: a region can dominate the leaderboard by volume while still ranking mid-table on odds.

Hampshire has produced its share of near-misses, with a £1million EuroMillions ticket bought in Rushmoor going unclaimed for months in 2022.

Coming in seventh: East of England

The East ranks seventh, with a rate of 118 millionaires per million people.

Its 749 millionaires, spread across a population of more than six million, work out at one in every 8,476 residents striking lucky.

A £1million EuroMillions ticket bought in Watford for the January 2026 draw sat unclaimed for months, a reminder that not every winner checks their numbers straight away.

The not-so-lucky regions...

Eight place: the South West of England

Eighth place belongs to the South West, where 631 millionaires have emerged from a population of more than 5.5 million, a rate of 111 per million.

That works out at one in every 9,053 residents.

A £1million Lotto prize bought in South Gloucestershire for the November 2025 draw went unclaimed for weeks before its deadline passed, one of several near-misses in the region.

London comes in ninth place

London ranks ninth.

The capital has produced 969 millionaires, the fourth-highest total in the country.

However, its enormous population pushes the rate down to just 106 per million or one in every 9,078 people.

The capital has also seen the UK's most dramatic near-miss: a £10.6million Lotto jackpot bought in Bexley in October 2025 went unclaimed for the full 180 days and was ultimately forfeited to good causes.

This is the largest prize of its kind lost in recent years.

Second least lucky: Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland comes second-to-last, with a rate of 106 millionaires per million people.

Its 202 millionaires, the smallest total of any UK region, are spread across a population of almost two million, meaning one in every 9,428 people has won big.

A £1million EuroMillions ticket bought in County Tyrone for the April 2026 draw remains unclaimed, with a potential 203rd Northern Irish millionaire yet to come forward.

The least lucky region: the Midlands

The Midlands finishes last.

It has minted more millionaires than any other UK region, 1,085 in total, combining the West and East Midlands.

But its population of more than 10 million people is also the largest of any region, drags the rate down to just 100 per million, the lowest in the country.

One in every 9,986 Midlands residents has become a lottery millionaire.
