Manchester airport workers discover that they are long-lost siblings after forging unlikely friendship

A man and woman have become best friends at Manchester Airport only to discover that they are long-lost siblings.

The 60-year-old bus station supervisor and a vending machine attendant forged an unlikely friendship before making the discovery.

Dave Green and Andrea Urmston, 53, shared a passion for motorbikes and spent two years building a close friendship.

In 2007, a conversation about fostering prompted Mr Green to disclose that he had been adopted as a child.

Ms Urmston responded by sharing that she had a brother who was given up for adoption before she was born.

During the phone call, Mr Green then revealed that his birth name was Stuart Proudlove, which was Ms Urmston's maiden name.

She rang her mother, Susan, to verify Mr Green's date of birth before breaking the news to him.

She told the BBC: "I was shaking, I was just shaking and my heart was pounding."

Ms Urmston added: "I'd finally found him. It's unbelievable."

Mr Green said: "People don't meet like that, it's not what happens in everyday life, but ours are not everyday lives any more."

When Mr Green travelled to meet his biological mother, who had been just 15 when she gave birth to him, he discovered he had routinely driven past her home in Altrincham in his role as a bus driver.

Ms Urmston described the moment her brother and their mother were reunited as "amazing."

She added: "It was a surreal moment, there was lots of tears and then we all just hugged.

"I couldn't believe that I'd got my brother and my mum together."

Mr Green said: "Somebody or something gave me the thumbs up that day and things will never be the same again."

The story of Mr Green and Ms Urmston is not an isolated case.

In 2025, two brothers torn apart more than half a century earlier were brought face to face on ITV's Long Lost Family.

Peter Macdonald, 58, a painter and decorator from Accrington in Lancashire, was reunited with his elder brother Trevor Schwartz, 61, after years of searching.

Mr Macdonald wept with joy upon seeing his sibling for the first time in decades.

The occasion carried an additional layer of poignancy when Mr Schwartz disclosed that their meeting fell on what would have been their late mother's birthday.
