As Manchester United look to secure a place in the Champions League , long-term plans are being hatched at Old Trafford. The top priority is to bring in a permanent manager, with Michael Carrick impressing in his spell as interim boss. However, there is also a legitimate call for United to appoint a proven top-tier manager. The squad, while improved from this time last season, needs strengthening, with midfield an area of focus. United will also look to move on players who have no future at the club, regardless of who the manager is. On the pitch, following the victory at Chelsea , United are preparing to host Brentford on Monday evening. Here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford… FOLLOW OUR MAN UTD FB PAGE! Latest United news and more on our dedicated Facebook page The number of United exits could reach 13 this summer, as INEOS prepares for a major overhaul. Several high-profile names are on their way out, including Casemiro, who will depart upon the expiry of his contract. United are also keen to move on Marcus Rashford , who commands £300,000 per week. Barcelona hold the option to sign Rashford on a permanent basis for £26million, though reports in Spain suggest their enthusiasm for completing the deal has waned. Other players on loan, such as Rasmus Hojlund , Jadon Sancho and Andre Onana, are likely to sever their ties with United. The potential departure list doesn't end there, with Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, Tyrell Malacia and keepers Radek Vitek and Altay Bayindir possibly heading for pastures new. A number of academy products could also move on, including Tyler Fredricson, Toby Collyer and Dan Gore. Antony has called leaving United the best decision of his life as he thrives at his new club. The 26-year-old was part of the so-called 'bomb squad.' Last summer, he sealed a permanent move to Real Betis, where he had a successful loan over the second half of last season. Despite United taking a big financial hit on a player they signed from Ajax for around £80million, his departure was seen as best for both parties. The Brazilian is making the most of his fresh start, judging by form this season, with 13 goals and nine assists. Antony told ESPN Brazil : "It was one of the best decisions of my life to stay at Betis. "I am very happy. My family weighed heavily in the decision. Seeing them happy is important. It makes things lighter on the pitch when the family is well." Teddy Sheringham would be deeply disappointed if Carrick isn't given the job permanently this summer. The interim boss has picked up the pieces from Ruben Amorim's reign to guide United to the brink of Champions League qualification. Sheringham, a member of the 1999 Treble-winning squad, told talkSPORT: "It just shows you what can be done if you've got the right approach. If you get on the right wavelength with players, things turn around very, very quickly. "He's had that reaction from him and they've gone on from there. I'd be very disappointed in Man United if they didn't give Michael Carrick the job. I think he's been fantastic since he's gone in there." While United bosses have been impressed by Carrick, a final decision will not be made until the end of the season, with Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann now reportedly on the club's radar.
