Wharton, 22, is one of several midfielders on United's shortlist as they bid to sign a replacement of the outgoing Casemiro.‌The former Blackburn Rovers youngster helped Palace win the FA Cup last season and he's likely to go to the World Cup with England this summer. Manchester City and Liverpool have also been linked with Wharton, who's been valued at around £70million.‌Since United appointed Michael Carrick, who's increasing likely to get the job on a permanent basis, Mainoo has been a mainstay in a two-man midfield alongside Casemiro. The duo compliment each other well and United's ambition is to recruit a midfielder who's just as compatible with Mainoo as the Brazilian .‌But according to the Telegraph, it's believed that Wharton's profile is too similar to Mainoo's.
