Emergency services were called to the Audley Weir in the Royal National Park, south of Sydney, about 1.15am on Wednesday. Police were told the car had left the road and plunged into the weir. It's understood the driver, also a man in his 20s, was able to free himself from the sinking vehicle and swim to safety. He was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. His passenger, however, was trapped in the vehicle. A multi-agency rescue operation has been launched in a bid to locate the passenger, with Audley road closed in both directions this morning. The Crash Investigation Unit and Marine Area Command are assisting efforts.
