Man in hospital after 'stolen' delivery van crashes

A delivery van was allegedly stolen on Thursday afternoon, before crashing into a parked car, flipping and injuring the delivery driver trying to stop it getting away. Emergency services descended on Regent Street West in Briton Ferry between 3pm and 3.30pm following the incident. Witnesses say that the driver of a delivery van momentarily exited his vehicle to make a delivery, when a man allegedly jumped in and tried to steal it. It is then reported that the vehicle was driven around the corner before crashing into a parked black Ford Focus and flipping. Always keep on top of the latest Welsh news with our newsletter . The owner of the Ford Focus was bank worker Ben Rogers, who was working from home at the time. He told WalesOnline: "Me and my partner Kirsty work from home, and I was on the phone to a customer, and during that conversation, someone messaged me to tell me that someone had crashed into my car. "I didn't hear any bangs or anything at all, but then I went outside and I saw a van on its side on the opposite side of the road and a guy surrounded by paramedics. "I walked around the corner and saw my car with the left rear tyre in the back passenger seat. It was crazy, and it was not something you'd think would happen on a standard Thursday afternoon in broad daylight. "The way I look at it, if my car wasn't there, it would either have gone straight through my house, or could have proceeded to carry on driving down the road at a time when kids are finishing school . Although it is not great, it could have been worse. "My car is written off. I've been on the phone to the insurance company and they are talking about having to assess it first, but there's no coming back, the rear wheel is inside the car almost. It is an absolute mess. "My partner's car was actually damaged in the process as well. Some debris came off my car and flew into her car. We only just moved into the house as well, and it's almost tarnished that a little bit. I don't know if I'll feel safe leaving another car outside my house again. "We're just shaken up, it's a weird feeling to know that can happen." Briton Ferry town councillor Sarah Davies described the incident as an attempted robbery of a delivery van, and notified people that Church Street was closed, with access limited from Regent Street West, advising people to take alternative routes if possible. She wrote online: "After speaking with a PCSO, the driver of the van is okay and is now at A&E. Damage has been done to stationary cars, plus the delivery van has overturned."
