Man fighting for his life after stabbing near Staffordshire golf club as cops hunt attacker

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after police say he was stabbed from behind near a Staffordshire golf club. Cops descended on the area after the victim, a man in his 60s, was attacked and left in critical condition in hospital. A police helicopter and air ambulance were scrambled. Officers were called at 7pm yesterday (May 14) following 'reports of violence' close to the golf club on Newport Road. Staffordshire Police said the victim had been walking in the Castlefields area from Redgrave Drive towards Stafford Castle when he was approached from behind by a man and assaulted. He was later found on a bench by a member of the public who raised the alarm, StokeonTrentLive reports . The man was treated for serious injuries before being rushed to hospital where he was described as being in a ‘critical’ condition. Cops are now hunting for the attacker, described as being in his mid to late 20s, of an average build and wearing dark clothing. A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "The victim was taken to hospital by land ambulance. He remains in a critical condition in hospital. There is currently a large police presence at the scene as officers conduct inquiries as part of our investigation." Anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage was urged to contact Staffordshire Police. Witnesses should call 101 and quote incident 641 of May 14. A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing on Newport Road. One ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene. "On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. He was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital for further treatment."
