Man and woman remanded in custody after mother-of-one shot outside Sheffield bar
A man and woman have been remanded in custody following a court hearing this afternoon, after they were charged in connection with the death of a 30-year-old mother-of-one who was shot outside a bar in Sheffield in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.
Shanice Brookes, 30, died in hospital after the shooting outside One Four One bar in the Yorkshire city centre on 25th May.
Police said Shanice was "an entirely innocent bystander" and that the victim worked for a local charity and was in the process of completing a university degree.
Jemele Rhone, 30, was charged with murder, possession of a firearm and possession of criminal property. Rhone did not attend the hearing.
Deiryen Dyce, 32, had a separate hearing at the same court after she was charged with assisting an offender, possession of ammunition, possession of drugs with intent to supply, possession of drugs and possession of criminal property.
South Yorkshire Police received reports shortly before 2.45am on Monday, May 25, that 30-year-old Shanice had been shot outside of One Four One bar, following an altercation in the street, to which she was an innocent bystander.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles said: "Shanice was an entirely innocent bystander who should’ve been able to enjoy a night out in our city without the fear that she wouldn’t come home safely.
"Shanice's family, including her young son, now face the harrowing reality that they will never get to see her again.
"They are having to grieve the unimaginable loss of their beloved daughter, friend and mother in the most tragic of circumstances. Our thoughts remain with them.

"From the outset of this investigation, our priority has been clear - to provide answers for Shanice's loved ones - and today's development is a significant step in our commitment to do so."
Paying tribute to mum-of-one Shanice Brookes, her family described her as "truly one of a kind" and said she could "light up every room she walked in."
In a statement issued by South Yorkshire Police on behalf of Shanice's family, they said: “Shanice had the biggest heart and the kind of energy you could never forget.
“She was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend and godmother, as well as being an amazing mum to her son, who meant the world to her. To her cousins, she was more like a sister – someone they could always turn to for love, laughter and support.

“Shanice was also due to graduate from university, a reflection of her determination, ambition and the bright future ahead of her.
“She could light up every room she walked in to with her infectious laugh, beautiful soul and magical aura. Shanice made people feel loved, safe and valued simply by being herself.
“She was truly one of a kind and she will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love her."
Jemele Rhone, 30, and Deiryen Dyce, 32, will next appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday 1st June.
Jonathan Storer of the Crown Prosecution Service said: "We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendants are active and they have the right to a fair trial.
"It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
