Major airlines have cancelled over 450 flights in one day causing widespread travel disruption across Asia. The cancellations impacted travel across several countries including Malaysia, India, Indonesia , Russia and China. Chaos was created for travelers as 451 flights were cancelled and a further 1,831 flights were delayed. Major airports including Kuala Lumpur, Delhi, Jakarta, Yakutsk and Beijing were among those impacted by the disruption. China Eastern, IndiGo, Citilink and AirAsia all faced issues. It has been reported that the disturbance was due to several factors, including operational challenges and air traffic control delays. Customers of China Eastern and IndiGo suffered the worst delays leading to missed connections for many. China's air network has been massively impacted by delays with China Eastern cancelling 29 flights and Air China seeing 35 cancellations. Between the two airlines, there were also 282 flights delayed. In Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur International Airport has been home to many terminated journeys. These issues are primarily impacting flights within Asia, however international flights to destinations including China and India have also been affected. In India, one airline in particular was impacted as IndiGo faced 568 delays, with 10 flights also cancelled. Delhi airport saw the highest number of delays, for both domestic and international passengers. In the Middle East, flights in Dubai were also cancelled. FlyDubai and Air Arabia were struggling with delays. Passengers impacted by these delays have been urged to continue to regularly check your flight status and check your airlines rebooking options. As air travel is currently facing issues, travel insurance is more important than ever, and holiday makers are being urged to make sure they are covered ahead of trips.
