The assistant sub-inspector Rajesh Jadhav was on duty Tuesday when he allegedly misused his position. (Representational Image/pexel)The 54-year-old ASI allegedly asked a woman detainee to send her daughter to him, PTI news agency cited police as saying on Wednesday. The woman had allegedly been arrested in connection with a financial fraud case involving ₹80 lakh, and had been kept at the Civil Lines Police Station lockup. The assistant sub-inspector Rajesh Jadhav was on duty Tuesday when he allegedly misused his position to lure the woman with an offer of money. He further demanded that she send her daughter to him for sexual favours, police inspector Anil Jumle told PTI. The officer, who has since been suspended and is absconding, according to an India Today report, allegedly told the detainee, “You are very beautiful; your daughter must be beautiful too. Send her to me, and I will give you ₹10,000.” Following the incident, the woman approached senior police officials with a complaint. A video surfaced on social media showing senior police officers confronting and scolding the accused cop. District superintendent of police Archit Chandak suspended the ASI with immediate effect on Tuesday, PTI cited an official as saying. A case was also registered against the accused on charges of outraging a woman's modesty and other legal provisions. Former Maharashtra State Women’s Commission member Dr Asha Mirge told India Today that complaints against Jadhav had also surfaced in the past. She said there had been reports related to family disputes and alleged inappropriate behaviour towards women nearly a decade ago. “It is deeply concerning when those entrusted to protect become predators. Timely action is essential to prevent such behaviour from continuing,” India Today cited her as saying. Dr Mirge also praised the swift action by Akola police.
