Jason Mowry / Getty Images Share articleThe Athletic has live coverage of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Rams selected tight end Max Klare with the 61st pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Klare transferred from Purdue to Ohio State for the 2025 season. He played in 14 games as a Buckeye, starting 11, and ranked third on the team in receptions (43) and receiving yards (448). Klare, 22, decided to forego his final season of eligibility and pursue the NFL. Originally from Guilford, Ind. (near the Ohio border), Klare attended the private St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati. He switched from quarterback to tight end as a junior in 2020. He began as a two-sport athlete at Purdue, playing both football and baseball, but decided to focus on football after his freshman year. Klare ranked No. 66 in Dane Brugler’s top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide: “Klare is a good-looking athlete and shows speed and urgency that suggest he has yet to play his best football. He needs to improve with some of the pacing and subtleties of getting open, but his route movements are crisp and fluid. He has the body control to play the ball well in the air and flashes a burst after the catch. The foundation is there to be a serviceable positional blocker, although it will likely never be a strength of his game. “Klare has a low ceiling as a blocker and needs to continue adding refinement as a route runner, but his combination of athleticism, toughness and ball skills gives him a modern-day skill set. He projects as an F tight end, similar in ways to Dalton Kincaid.” Has the skill set NFL teams are looking for, though blocking will never be a strength.
