London Spirit embrace MCC egg and bacon on new Hundred kit
The London Spirit Hundred franchise has embraced its Lord’s home, adding a egg and bacon colourway to their new kit.
The strip, this year sponsored by Barclays, will be worn by the men’s and women’s team in this year’s edition of the Hundred, the first since a number of overseas investors started to make key board decisions since the sale of stakes in the eight franchises.
London Spirit saw a 49 per cent stake, the minimum available for sale, snapped up by a consortium of tech titans, including Google’s Sundar Pichai, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Silver Lake’s Egon Durban and Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen.
The franchise stated that the shirt will be used for the next two seasons. It features a new “LS” logo, the Barclays front-of-shirt branding, diagonal stripes in alternating blues and the egg and bacon vertical stripe.
London Spirit the full English
Egg and bacon colourways are synonymous with the members of the Marylebone Cricket Club – which owns Lord’s and the majority stake in London Spirit – with hats, ties and blazers often worn with the alternating stripes throughout Middlesex’s season and international Test matches at the Home of Cricket.
Julian Metherell, chair of the franchise, said: “I am delighted that we can reveal our London Spirit playing and training kit.
“It has been very exciting to see the design process and I am confident that London Spirit supporters will be pleased with the outcome.
“The blending of tradition and modernity, with the MCC thread underpinning a stylish design, is central to everything we are trying to do with London Spirit. It has been great to have Nike and KitKing on board throughout this process.”
This year’s Hundred saw an auction for the first time, with London Spirit picking up 22-year-old James Coles for £390,000 – a record for the competition.
The wider squad features the likes of Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow and Amy Jones.
