Mamardashvili, 25, suffered a deep wound to his knee in a collision with Beto as the hosts equalised early in the second half. With No 1 Alisson still sidelined by a hamstring problem, Slot had to hand a Premier League debut to third-choice keeper Freddie Woodman, who joined on a free transfer from Preston North End last summer. “Is there anything that surprises you when it comes to injuries with us this season?” Slot said. “Maybe I already envisaged it because I had two goalkeepers on the bench today, which I normally don’t have but, of course, it has everything to do with the availability of all the other positions. “Giorgi had to go to hospital with a big wound, so let’s see how he will be. Freddie deserves a lot of credit — coming in just after conceding at 1-1 and their fans were ready for it but he did his job really well. “He kept calm in a difficult moment when he was doubting whether to catch the ball, yes or no, but kept his nerve. He’s worked so hard to have this moment. Usually, third goalkeepers don’t play a lot, but in a season like ours, I think if you are playing in the under-eights at Liverpool, you should be ready for making your debut because it is unbelievable what is happening to us.” Virgil van Dijk settled the 248th Merseyside derby with a 100th-minute header from Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner. Victory moved Liverpool seven points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification. “An unbelievable compliment to my players because that was our fifth game in 15 days with mainly the same players,” Slot added. “We started and finished the game without a right full-back. Curtis Jones did really well there. We had our third-choice goalkeeper out there and our No 9 (Mohamed Salah) is usually known as a right winger. “I don’t think we’ve had a lot of big moments this season. At times, we’ve scored late goals but then conceded again.
