Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at the incident on Smithdown Road in the city. Crews were alerted at 10.04pm and on scene at 10.10pm, there are currently eight fire engines and one aerial appliance in attendance. Both ends of Smithdown Road have been cordoned off by Merseyside Police after a huge amount of smoke was seeing coming from a takeaway on the road. There is a large police presence in the area and fire engines in attendance as they attempt to put the fire out. An eyewitness living in the area told the ECHO: "My housemates and I witnessed smoke rising from the buildings on the corner of Barrington Road, so my housemate called 999. "The fire brigade and police arrived in about five minutes, before which there was a huge explosion that came from the back of the buildings. We watched it happen and I took some footage of the situation as it developed." The fire service has been evacuated as the incident is controlled.
