A sweet young girl stole the hearts of a TV audience when she burst out crying after winning an award on national TV. Ani Rowlands, from Llangristiolus, won the individual recital for year two and younger in the Eisteddfod yr Urdd Ynys Môn on Thursday. The young Ysgol Henblas student was in tears as she accepted the award from presenter Mari Lovgreen. Speaking in Welsh and while crying, Ani thanked her mum for being kind to her and for helping her to learn, even when she didn't want to. Her mum was brought to tears as Ani said: "I tried my best for mum." Ms Lovgreen said to Ani: "Big congratulations to you. You’ve won nationally. Is there anything you’d like to say or is it all too much?" Ani adorably replied: "Thanks to mum for teaching me. Even if I didn’t want to learn it, she still wanted to teach me. She helped me, she was kind to me and I tried my best for mum." Mari Lovgreen said: "Come here, it’s all right, it's all right. This is something happy, very special that you’ve done here today." Speaking to the BBC , Ani said her dad was buying her a kebab as a present for winning. Eisteddfod yr Urdd is one of Europe's largest annual youth festivals, celebrating the Welsh language, arts, and culture. Hosted by Urdd Gobaith Cymru (the Welsh League of Youth), the festival travels to a different region of Wales each year. Over 15,000 children and young people under the age of 25 compete in more than 370 categories, including singing, dancing, acting, and literature. The festival site, known as the Maes, features interactive stalls, activity areas, and food and drink pavilions, and the event features family-friendly live music performances and community-focused entertainment. The festival's most recent edition was held on Ynys Môn at the Anglesey Agricultural Showground near Gwalchmai. It was the first time the national Urdd Eisteddfod had returned to the island in over two decades. In 2027 Tredegar House will host the festival in Newport for the first time. Councillor Jason Hughes, cabinet member for communities and sport, expressed his pride in the city’s growing Welsh language scene. He said: "We cannot wait to welcome Wales and Eisteddfod yr Urdd to Newport for the first time. Newport is a proud Welsh city, and use of the Welsh language is growing all the time."
