المصدر: GB News | Source: GB NewsA Crowborough resident has expressed his outrage at the Labour Government after confirming plans to extend asylum seeker housing in his community.
Speaking to GB News, Simon Lane declared the community is "devastated" after learning that the ex-military camp currently housing asylum seekers will remain for a further four years to 2030.
Amid the confirmed plans for housing asylum seekers, the Government has announced three new sites for migrant camps in Bicester, Linton-on-Ouse in North Yorkshire and Barnham in Suffolk.
As well as the Crowborough site, RAF Wethersfield is also set to be extended to house more asylum seekers.
TRENDINGStoriesVideosYour SayReacting to the plans, Mr Lane told GB News that he woke up to hundreds of messages from concerned residents in their community group chat.
He said: "I think myself and the vast majority of residents are absolutely devastated by this news.
"But we're not entirely surprised because quite frankly, since day one, we've been lied to almost on a daily basis, weekly basis by the Government trying to pull the wool over our eyes in regards to what is going to happen, then what has happened."
Mr Lane said some residents are feeling "complete outrage" over the Government's decision to extend the accommodation duration.
He told GB News: "It's devastating news for the community, and I woke up this morning to 197 WhatsApp messages from various people, saying that they were in complete outrage over the whole affair.
"If the Government told me today was Friday, I think I'd have to check because it might be a lie."
Mr Lane revealed that the residents are already concerned about the "anti-social behaviour" of the current asylum seekers staying at at the ex-military base.
He said: "We have confirmed police reports of anti-social behaviour by residents of the camp in and around the town of Crowborough.

"And a friend of mine was assaulted by a resident of the camp not so long ago."
Mr Lane added: "We see them meandering up to Crowborough, going to various supermarkets around Crowborough, buying alcohol, and they take it back to just outside the gates of the camp.
"They consume it there, they become inebriated, they go back into the camp.
"But because they're not taking the alcohol back into the camp and they're drinking it outside, that's deemed perfectly acceptable by the people that are running the camp and also the Government."
Border Security and Asylum Minister Alex Norris said: "We promised to close every asylum hotel and hand them back to communities, and that is exactly what we are doing.
"Twenty more hotels have closed, and hotel numbers have more than halved since their peak.
"Instead, we’re moving asylum seekers into ex-military sites that are a far cry from the hotels the last Government left us with.
"This is a system being brought back under control - and we will not stop until the job is done."
