Leaving with reservations: what we know about Moldova’s withdrawal from CIS
MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Moldova is withdrawing from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) with reservations, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev said. TASS has compiled the main statements by Lebedev on Moldova’s role in the CIS. - Moldova is exiting the CIS with reservations: "They have decided to withdraw from the main documents, namely the Charter and the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS. However, 208 agreements will remain in effect for Moldova for now. About 104 of them are in the economic sector, and they want to remain part of these agreements." - Moldova will not be able to participate in closed agreements within the CIS, which will complicate its participation in the open ones: "According to the Vienna Convention, the withdrawal process lasts a full year. During this year it will be decided in which agreements it [Moldova] will be allowed to remain and in which it cannot participate. At any rate, it cannot participate in closed agreements, which will naturally make its participation in open agreements more difficult." - The CIS Executive Committee has not yet received a formal note on Moldova’s withdrawal: "We are experiencing certain difficulties. This concerns Ukraine and Moldova, which has now announced its intention to leave the CIS. We have not yet received an official notification." - Ukraine and Moldova are currently not participating in CIS activities: "Ukraine and Moldova, unfortunately, are not taking part in the activities of our Commonwealth." - Kiev has not yet withdrawn from all relevant agreements: "Ukraine has not yet withdrawn.".المصدر: TASS | Source: TASS
