Lawyer Fadi Farhat weighs in as Sharia legal services on British high streets revealed
Top lawyer Fadi Farhat has weighed in as GB News revealed the presence of Sharia legal services on British high streets.
Promotions for services rooted in Islamic law include marriage contracts, divorce proceedings and inheritance arrangements.
“There needs to be a discussion about the place of Sharia elements within our legal system,” Mr Farhat said.
He argued that the parallel pseudo-legal system does not “exist in spite of English law, but because of English law”, which included “freedom to enter into certain things”.
However, the senior legal consultant and human rights lawyer warned that “it doesn't mean that they supersede the law of the land.
“I think there needs to be a bit more awareness around that,” Mr Farhat stressed.
