His father John has said that "boxing destroyed" his relationship with Tyson "completely". He added that he believes his son to be "past his best" and that there are people surrounding Tyson "building him up like he's invincible. He's not and he hasn't been for a while."‌His wife Paris also admitted she would prefer he stayed in retirement, saying she suggested training or taking up a new hobby. However, "he still wants to do it. So I'm not going to deny him that dream," she said.
