Labour's latest 'gimmick' to tackle migrant crisis torn apart by Chris Philp: 'They should be deported!'

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has been skewered over her handling of Britain's migrant crisis, as Chris Philp accused her of "tinkering around the edges".

Speaking to GB News, the Shadow Home Secretary expressed his outrage at a scheme set to house almost 100 asylum seekers in new-build homes in Shropshire, calling for illegal migrants to "be deported immediately".

Some 83 asylum seekers have been earmarked to move into 21 smart new-build homes in Stoke Heath, worth £250,000 each.

Expressing his outrage at the revelation, Mr Philp told GB News: "The Labour Government is putting illegal immigrants up in brand new homes, worth £250,000 each.

"Local young people in that area could only dream of affording or living in homes like that, and the Government are giving them to illegal immigrants to live in, people who've entered the country illegally."

The Tory MP called for the scheme to be "immediately cancelled".

He argued: "I think that is absolutely disgraceful, that scheme should be immediately cancelled. The local MP, Mark Pritchard, has called for that already, and I certainly support that.

"This scheme to put them in brand new homes should be instantly cancelled. No way illegal immigrants should be put up there. What should happen is they should be deported, they should be kicked out."

The Shadow Home Secretary told GB News that all illegal migrants that enter Britain "should be deported straight away".

He stressed: "They've entered our country illegally, they've left France, which is a safe country, nobody is fleeing from war in France. These trips are unnecessary and the people should be deported straight away.

"No court case, no asylum hearing, no messing around, no modern slavery claim, no human rights claim. Just be deported straight away, it's that simple."

Reacting to the latest figures on small boat crossings, Mr Philp dismissed that crossings are down 13 per cent and declared the problem is "far from solved".

He said: "I'm afraid to say the numbers in the first few months of this year were down to the weather in the Channel. In the last two or three weeks, when we've had good weather, as we've all seen, numbers have been flooding across.

"About 3,000 illegal immigrants have crossed in the last three weeks or so during the good weather, so I'm afraid to say, the truth is, this problem is far from being solved. About 10,000 have come across this year already, which is far too high.

"The Government has been making some announcements in the last few days, which are basically gimmicks which tinker around the edges. They won't make any real difference. We need to stop this completely. Zero is the right number that should be crossing the Channel. Zero illegal immigrants."

Mr Philp concluded: "The only way we're going to do that is by leaving the ECHR, leaving the modern slavery treaty, and deporting every single illegal immigrant within a week of arrival with no legal claims, no court hearings, no asylum claims.

"Illegal immigrants should not be able to claim asylum, and if we start deporting these illegal immigrants within a week of arrival back to their country of origin, or a safe third country like Rwanda, pretty quickly they're going to stop bothering to cross."

GB News understands that the Stoke Heath development pre-dated the new processes introduced by Ms Mahmood earlier this year.

The new processes mean tharnew-build sites are no longer considered for housing asylum seekers.

A Home Office spokesman told GB News: "New houses should never house asylum seekers.

"Earlier this year, the Home Secretary introduced robust processes to ensure new-build sites like Stoke Heath can never be considered again."
