Labour MP claims Reform UK and GB News are to blame for 'hate' behind Berlin Pride attack

Reform UK and GB News are behind the homophobic "hate" behind the Berlin Pride car ramming attack, a Labour MP has claimed.

Kate Osborne, on the party's left, claimed last night that the party and the channel were "spouting nonsense and broadcasting content and language that attacks and vilifies the LGBTQ+ community".

She said that both contributed to "patterns emerging across Europe" and that "an escalation of hate and verbal attacks online" acted as a "catalyst for real-world physical violence".

"This is why Pride still matters and why we all need to vocally stand up for minorities and condemn the hate," the Jarrow and Gateshead East MP said.

Earlier on Sunday, the driver behind the horrific attack was revealed to be "dangerous Islamist" Abdul Ballout.

He drove a van into a crowd, killing one and injuring 29 others as he attacked revellers with a machete, Berlin's Mayor said.

The vile Islamist had previously tried to join Isis, having travelled to Lebanon in 2025, and was arrested on his return to Berlin.

Reform MP Robert Jenrick last night labelled Ms Osborne's claim "unhinged".

"Here is a Labour MP linking the appalling Berlin Pride attack on Reform UK," he said, sharing her words online.

"It's simply unhinged.

"The left will do literally anything to avoid confronting the Islamist threat."

Labour MP David Taylor, however, took to social media last night to decry the far-left - and warned of how Islamic extremists "hate our way of life" in the West.

"The far-left like to claim terrorist attacks are the result of 'Western imperialism'," he said.

"Germany opposed the Iraq war and the US's operations in Iran this year.

"They are still a target because Islamic extremists hate our way of life. Our security services deserve our full support."

In Germany, the attack has sparked renewed calls - across the political divide - for the country to crack down on radical Islam.

Green politician and Bundestag Vice President Omid Nouripour said Germany must stand against "murderous Islamism".

While Daniel Peters, a regional leader of the centre-right CDU, said Isis supporters "must not walk free in Germany".

"We will not allow religious extremists to divide our country with violence and intolerance!" the right-wing AfD's co-leader Tino Chrupalla said.

The party has directly blamed Angela Merkel's open-doors refugee policy for terror attacks in Germany.

Europe's largest economy has endured a slew of terrorist attacks over the last decade, with at least nine notable car ramming attacks alone.

A failed Afghan asylum seeker injured 30 people - including a two-year-old toddler - when he drove into crowds in Munich last February.

In May this year, a man drove into a pedestrian zone in Leipzig, killing two people and seriously injuring three others.

Most notably, in 2016, Tunisian failed asylum seeker Anis Amri hijacked a truck, killed its driver and drove it into a busy Christmas market, killing 11 people and injuring dozens.

He was shot dead by police in Italy four days later.
