Edebiyatında kimlik, aidiyet, toplumsal farklılıklar, ötekileştirme ve Körfez toplumlarının dönüşümü gibi konuları ele alan Alsanousi, eserlerinde bireyin toplumla ve kendi kimliğiyle kurduğu ilişkiyi sorguluyor. Alsanousi'nin 2012'de "Bambu Sapı" adlı romanı edebiyat dünyasında geniş yankı uyandırdı. Türkçe çevirisi de bulunan kitap, 2013'te Uluslararası Arap Romanı Ödülü'nü kazandı. Yazar, ayrıca yayımladığı "Annem Hissa'nın Fareleri", "Ev Güvercinleri" ve "Salih'in Dişi Devesi" gibi eserlerinde de toplumsal hafıza, mezhepçilik, tarih ve bireyin yaşadığı çevreyle ilişkisi gibi meseleleri ele aldı. Akademisyen Dr. Kamal Bendjafer'in yönetimini üstlendiği fuar kapsamındaki söyleşide Alsanousi, bu fuara ilk kez katıldığını ve davet edildiği için fuar ekibine teşekkür etti. Saud Alsanousi, "Bambu Sapı" romanıyla uluslararası tanınırlığının arttığını fakat romanın ilk olarak 2012'de Kuveyt'te Devlet Edebiyat Ödülü'nü de kazandığını söyledi. Bu romanında toplumdaki bazı davranışları ve sorunları eleştirdiğini dile getiren Alsanousi, "Buna rağmen devletin bu eseri ödüllendirmesi benim için önemli bir olgunluk göstergesiydi. Uluslararası Arap Romanı Ödülü ise beni çok daha geniş bir alana taşıdı. O zamana kadar Kuveyt ve Körfez bölgesiyle sınırlı bir tanınırlığım vardı. Bu ödül sayesinde Arap dünyasının çok farklı ülkelerindeki okurlara ulaştım. Kısa bir süre içinde Körfez'den Arap dünyasının farklı bölgelerine kadar pek çok ülkeye gittim. Daha sonra eserim Avrupa ve Amerika'da yayımlandı ve farklı dillere çevrildi. Dolayısıyla bu ödül, benim için edebiyat hayatımda çok önemli bir dönüm noktasıydı." dedi. Saud Alsanousi, bir yazarın yalnızca kendi yaşadığı sorunları kaleme alması gerektiği düşüncesine karşı çıkarak toplum açısından önemli gördüğü meseleleri de edebiyatının konusu haline getirebileceğini belirtti. "Bambu Sapı" adlı romanında yarı Kuveytli, yarı Filipinli bir karakter üzerinden kimlik meselesini ele aldığına işaret eden yazar, bu konunun kendi bireysel deneyimi olmadığını ancak toplumsal açıdan önemli bulduğu için üzerine düşündüğünü ve yazdığını söyledi. Yazarın toplumun sesi olmasını engelleyen bir durum bulunmadığını dile getiren Alsanousi, bir meselenin kişisel olarak yaşanmamış olsa da yazar tarafından sahiplenilebileceğini kaydetti. Mezhepçilik konusunun da doğrudan kendi yaşamının bir parçası olmadığını belirten Alsanousi, buna rağmen toplum açısından önemli gördüğü meseleleri araştırarak ve uzun yıllar üzerinde çalışarak edebiyata taşımanın doğal olduğunu vurguladı. Yazar Alsanousi, "Bir yazarın kendisini ilgilendiren veya toplumu ilgilendiren meseleleri araştırması ve yıllarını vererek bunlar üzerine yazması son derece doğal. Eğer bunu samimiyetle yapıyorsa mutlaka okura ulaşacaktır." dedi. Edebiyatın en önemli görevlerinden birinin farklı kültürler arasında bağ kurmak olduğunun altını çizen Saud Alsanousi, şunları kaydetti: "Size 'Ben okur için yazıyorum' demek isterdim ama doğrusu şu ben öncelikle yazmak için yazıyorum. Daha doğrusu, bir okur olarak kendim için yazıyorum. Henüz kimsenin yazmadığı ve benim okumak istediğim bir şeyi yazmak istiyorum. Elbette bazı karakterleri veya olayları kurgularken belirli okurları aklıma getirdiğim oluyor. Özellikle çok dikkatli okuyan, hikayenin nereye gittiğini hemen tahmin eden bazı okurları düşünüyorum ama romanı sırf okuru memnun etmek için yazmıyorum. Bir dönem okuru memnun etmeye, onun beklentilerine göre yazmaya çalıştığımı fark ettim. Birkaç ay sonra bunun doğru olmadığını düşündüm ve o çalışmayı tamamen bıraktım. Çünkü okurun istediği rahat bölgeye gitmek çok kolay. Asıl önemli olan, hem yazarın hem de okurun yeni bir bölgeye gitmesi. Ben yazarken yeni bir şey keşfetmeliyim, okura da keşfedebileceği yeni bir alan sunmalıyım." Kuveytli yazar Alsanousi, Arap dünyasının bugün çok zengin bir edebi üretime sahip olduğuna dikkati çekerek "Neredeyse her Arap ülkesinde dünya edebiyatıyla rekabet edebilecek yeni şeyler ortaya koyan yazarlar var. Fakat çeviri hareketi hala çok zayıf. Arap edebiyatı son derece zengin ve geniş bir dünya. Ancak bu eserlerin başka dillere yeterince çevrilmemesi, dünya okuruna ulaşmalarının önünde büyük bir engel oluşturuyor. Üstelik tek bir ülkenin içinde bile çok farklı kültürler ve hikayeler var." değerlendirmesini yaptı. Kuveyt ve Körfez Arap ülkelerinde modern roman geleneğinin özellikle 1970'lerden itibaren geliştiğini aktaran Alsanousi, bölgenin tarih, kültür ve hafıza açısından halen keşfedilmeyi bekleyen zengin bir birikime sahip olduğunu da sözlerine ekledi. Bu yıl "Hikaye devam ediyor" temasıyla düzenlenen "11. Uluslararası İstanbul Arapça Kitap Fuarı" yarın sona erecek.
