Knife-wielding attacker, 33, who injured two men and grabbed a dog before being tackled to the ground by brave passersby is arrested

Published: 16:45, 28 June 2026 | Updated: 16:46, 28 June 2026 An attacker was arrested after he slashed a man in the face with a knife, punched another through the window of a taxi and tried to grab a dog before being tackled to the ground by brave passersby, police said.  The ordeal unfolded on a residential street in Brighton at around 6pm on Saturday, Sussex Police added, which left two men injured and requiring medical attention.  One of the victims, aged 29, suffered slash wounds to his face and ear during the vicious attack.  The second victim, aged 28, was punched in the face through the window of a taxi by the armed suspect. Both men have since been discharged from hospital.  The knifeman proceeded to chase and grab hold of the dog before being tackled to the ground by courageous members of the public, who also seized the knife. The dog was unharmed.   The 33-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody. Police subsequently cordoned off the scene of the crime, Sillwood Street.  Detective Inspector Stephen Taylor said: 'This was a distressing and serious incident and the victims are being supported by officers. 'A thorough investigation is underway to ensure we have a full picture of what happened. 'Our neighbourhood policing officers are patrolling in the area and if anyone has any concerns they should speak with them.' A Sussex Police spokesperson said: 'Two men, both local, were injured when they were assaulted by a man carrying a knife, in an incident just before 6pm. 'A 29-year-old man suffered a slash to his face and ear and he was treated at hospital and discharged. 'A man, 28, was hit in the face through the window of a taxi and he was assessed at hospital. 'The man with the knife went on to chase and grab hold of the dog before he was tackled to the ground by members of the public and the knife was seized. The dog was unharmed.
