Keir Starmer is 'toast' and Britain 'needs a general election now', claims ex-Tory MP
Sir Keir Starmer needs to call a general election now amid Labour's leadership crisis, an ex-Tory MP has told GB News.
Former Deputy Speaker Nigel Evans hit out at the Prime Minister following his comments about tomorrow's Unite the Kingdom rally, describing Britons as "fed up".
In a video posted to social media ahead of the march, Sir Keir warned that the "violent thugs who spew hatred on our streets" will be hit with the "full force of the law".
He said: "We’re in a fight for the soul of this country, and the Unite the Kingdom march this weekend is a stark reminder of exactly what we are up against. Its organisers are peddling hatred and division, plain and simple."
Reacting to his remarks, Mr Evans told GB News that this is "about the survival of Keir Starmer at No10, Downing Street".
He said: "This is not talking about the survival of the heart of our nation, this is about the survival of Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street.
"We all know he's toast, but it doesn't stop him from trying to keep hold of the keys to No10."
Mr Evans argued that Britons are participating in such a march because of issues that have been "brewing for years".

He told GB News: "The reality is this has been brewing for years, because people are fed up looking at the thousands of people who illegally entered the United Kingdom, who have been put up in hotels, who have been put up in houses of multiple occupation.
"How many of them have been sent back? Only a small fraction of them, and people are fed up at the way that we see two-tier policing in this country."
Mr Evans highlighted that many who have put up the Union or St George's flags have been branded "racist" and "far-right" for displaying their patriotism.
He said: "We already know that people who have been putting up flags of Saint George and the Union Jack, some of them have been tainted as racist.

"That is the flag of my country. I'm proud to be British, I'm proud to stand behind my Union Jack, and being told by the Labour Party, that you're racist or semi-literate, there is a tipping point."
Mr Evans continued: "There's a tipping point that's reached, and people in this country have reached that tipping point enough, to be honest."
The ex-Tory MP argued that what the country wants is a "general election", not just the departure of Sir Keir.
He said: "We don't just want to see the caretaker Prime Minister gone, many people in this country are worried about the prospect of having somebody who's not even a member of Parliament at the moment, becoming Prime Minister of our country.

"We want a general election. Keir Starmer was only elected on 33.7 per cent of the vote, he does not have this massive mandate.
"He may have a majority in parliament and all those MPs, but Labour MPs are incredibly worried that they're going to lose their seats. But the fact is we need a general election now."
Delivering his verdict on Andy Burnham's bid to stand in the Makerfield by-election, Mr Evans declared that you "couldn't make it up".
He said: "It's almost like being asked to do a glowing reference for a hitman, and the hitman has only got one job, and that's to take you out and replace you, because that's what we all know it's all about.
"Andy Burnham wants to be Prime Minister of this country by getting rid of Keir Starmer. You just simply couldn't make this up."
