Keir Starmer has insisted that his Government is “delivering despite all the other things going on”.

The Prime Minister was speaking on a trip to Essex with Chancellor Rachel Reeves, after measures were announced to ease the cost of living over the summer.

Sir Keir’s statement appeared to address a turbulent period, following disastrous local election results for Labour and challenges to his leadership.

Despite Wes Steering’s resignation from the cabinet and Andy Burnham’s bid to return to Parliment, the Prime Minister allowed himself a wry smile as he referenced the drama surrounding his Government.
