2026KayseriBüyükkılıç, Belediye Meclis Salonu'nda düzenlenen bilgilendirme toplantısında, Kayseri'nin Avrupa Başkentleri ve Şehirleri Spor Federasyonu (ACES) tarafından 2029 Dünya Spor Başkenti ilan edildiğini söyledi. Kayseri'nin spor şehri olarak anılması, tanınması ve bilinmesi adına anlamlı bir çalışma yapıldığını belirten Büyükkılıç, bu süreçte büyük bir emek, gayret, iyi niyet ve liyakatin olduğunu ifade etti. Büyükkılıç, 2029 Dünya Spor Başkenti ünvanının merkezi Belçika'nın başkenti Brüksel'de bulunan Avrupa Parlamentosu bünyesinde faaliyet gösteren ACES Europe tarafından verildiğini diye getirerek, "Elbette bir ödül değil, Kayseri'mizin yıllarca sürdürdüğü planlı, disiplinli, sonuç odaklı spor politikasının açık bir şekilde kanıtlanması. Emeği geçen Kayserimizin tüm kesimlerine huzurlarınızda ayrı ayrı teşekkür etmek istiyorum." dedi. Kayseri'de sporla ilgili yürütülen çalışmalar hakkında bilgi veren Büyükkılıç, şunları kaydetti: “Bu şehirde spor sadece fiziksel gelişim değil, karakter inşası haline dönüşmüş durumda. Hazırım demek, iddia etmek yetmez. Bunun için de bir altyapı olsa gerek. Kayseri'de bugün sadece bir yılda 842 bin 338 sporsevere ulaşan dev bir ekosistem var. 31 tane donanımlı spor tesisi var. 357 bin 75 vatandaşımız tesislerden doğrudan faydalanmakta. 207 bin aktif üyemiz bulunmakta. 150 binin üzerinde yıllık kullanım gerçekleşmekte. 20 branşta 27 bin 858 çocuk spor eğitimi almakta. Sporcularımız, 384 altın, 301 gümüş, 243 bronz madalya, 18 uluslararası başarılı organizasyon gücümüz itibariyle de yıllık 200'e yakın etkinliğe 550 bin katılım sağlanıyor.” Kayseri'nin 4 mevsim spor üreten bir il olduğunu vurgulayan Büyükkılıç, 20 Eylül 2026 tarihinde koşulacak Uluslararası Kayseri Yarı Maratonu’na kayıtların sürdüğünü söyledi. Büyükkılıç, spor alanındaki yatırım ve projelerde kendi sınırlarını aşan bir anlayışla çalışmalarını sürdürmeye devam edeceklerini anlatarak, "Bundan sonraki mottomuz 'Spor ile kendini aş', kendimizi aşacağız. Geldiğimiz nokta işin bittiği anlamına gelmez. 2029 Dünya Spor Başkenti olduk ama bunu taçlandıracak, anlamlandıracak ve sporu adeta içselleştirecek bir yaklaşımı sürdürmeye 'devam' diyoruz." ifadelerini kullandı.
