By BEVERLY LYONS FOR THE SCOTTISH MAIL ON SUNDAY Published: 19:52, 16 May 2026 | Updated: 19:53, 16 May 2026 It is a fashion show woven into history – given the role it played in the romance between a young Prince William and his future wife Kate. Now, a designer who starred in and later headed up the St Andrews University charity show during her time studying alongside the young royals has said she would love to dress the Princess of Wales. The princess – then simply known as Kate Middleton – sashayed down the catwalk at the event on March 27, 2002, causing her friend and fellow student Prince William to remark: ‘Wow! Kate’s hot!’ At the after-show party, William, then 19, is said to have complimented her lavishly, marking the start of their long relationship. The future Princess of Wales on the St Andrews runway in March 2002 Ms Harvey, right, in New York with Scots star Danni Menzies Prince William and Kate at their graduation Holly Redmond Harvey took part in the show as a model in 2005 and went on to be involved with the event for the next three years, latterly as artistic director. During her time at St Andrews, she was introduced to Prince William and even found herself invited to parties held at the 400-acre Strathtyrum Estate – where Kate and William lived between September 2003 and May 2005. Recounting her time there, Ms Harvey, 40, said: ‘I was introduced to Will through my academic father and his group of friends. He was so super chilled and really kind – just like any other person.’ The fashion designer, who specialises in tartan creations, was brought up in the Aberdeenshire village of Aboyne, and she now runs her own label, Redmond Harvey Clothing, from a base in the Mayfair area of London. Last month, she debuted her collection at the Dressed to Kilt event in New York – with the models including A Place In The Sun’s Danni Menzies. ‘I know Kate loves tartan. If I could dress her, or she could wear one of my creations, that would be an absolute dream,’ Ms Harvey added. No comments have so far been submitted.
