Jet2 passenger 'left needing CPR after headbutting fellow traveller' on flight from hell

A Jet2 passenger was left needing CPR after headbutting a fellow passenger on board a flight from hell.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, is said to have drunk large amounts of alcohol before boarding the five-hour service from Larnaca on Sunday evening.

Witnesses say he had been rowing with his girlfriend prior to takeoff, with cabin crew forced to relocate her to a different seat.

His behaviour is then thought to have escalated as the aircraft made its way towards Manchester.

Passengers said he walked repeatedly up and down the aisle, hit overhead compartments and shouted at those around him.

One traveller, speaking anonymously, described the moment the situation turned violent somewhere over German airspace.

"By the time we were flying over Germany, some guy locked eyes with him, and the man walking up and down the aisle headbutted him," he said.

Cabin crew struggled to control the passenger and appealed for help from those onboard.

"He got restrained, and the air hostess was panicking. She asked if any big lads could help, as they couldn't keep him down," the witness added.

Four passengers then had to hold the man down for the remainder of the journey.

The witness described an eerie change as the aircraft approached its destination.

"We landed at Manchester, it went silent. He had been shouting for the whole flight, and then he was silent."

Police rushed to the rear of the aircraft immediately after it touched down at 2.25am on Monday and began administering CPR.

"When we touched down, the police came onto the flight, they ran to the back of the plane, shut the curtain, and we could see them doing CPR," the passenger recalled.

Officers then requested a defibrillator and additional medical equipment.

Travellers were kept aboard for approximately an hour before being escorted to a separate room where they provided statements to police.

The witness, who had been travelling with his partner and young daughter, described widespread distress during the incident.

"There was a lot of panic, you don't know what people might attempt to do on an airplane," he said.

"There were a few panicked children on the plane, too, and the air hostesses were crying."

Greater Manchester Police confirmed it was called to reports of an assault on the Larnaca flight at around 2.25am.

A spokesman said: "Officers attended and located a man who had been restrained. The man - in his 30s - was taken to hospital due to his condition."

The force confirmed he remains in hospital in a stable but critical condition with enquiries continuing.

A spokesman for Jet2 said: "We can confirm that flight LS966 from Larnaca to Manchester requested a priority landing (Monday 22nd June), due to a disruptive passenger incident.

"We can confirm that a passenger has been taken to hospital. As an investigation is underway, it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time."
