Jet 'hits pedestrian' on Denver airport runway as emergency vehicles flood scene

A passenger jet has collided with a pedestrian on the runway at Denver International Airport, publicly available audio appears to show. The collision, apparently involving a Frontier Airlines flight, reportedly happened last night (Friday) before a fire started on board. The crew of Flight 4345 confirmed there were 231 people on board, with emergency vehicles making their way to the scene, reports the Mirror US . No injuries were immediately reported on board. Unverified social media reports suggested a pedestrian had wandered onto one of the runways at the Colorado airport and was struck by the Frontier jet during takeoff. The plane reportedly aborted its takeoff, during which smoke and fire were detected inside the cabin. Passengers were swiftly evacuated, according to several social media users. The Mirror was unable to independently verify the social media reports at this stage and has contacted Frontier Airlines for an official comment on the Friday night incident. The episode comes just days after a United Airlines flight struck a Baltimore bakery lorry on the New Jersey Turnpike while preparing to land at Newark Liberty International Airport, According to Chuck Paterakis, senior vice president of transportation and logistics and co-principal at Baltimore-based HandS Bakery, the driver had been heading to a Schmidt bakery depot in Newark. As he was about to exit the motorway, the lorry collided with the aircraft, Paterakis told CBS News Baltimore. He revealed to the publication that one of the aircraft's landing gear tyres smashed through the lorry's window and windscreen. The driver, named as Warren Boardley Jr., was rushed to hospital, where medics treated him for glass-related injuries to his arm and hand. The flight, a Boeing 767, had departed from Venice, Italy, and also clipped a light pole while coming in to land. There were 221 passengers and 10 crew members on board. "Upon its final approach into Newark International Airport, United flight 169 came into contact with a light pole. The aircraft landed safely, taxied to the gate normally, and no passengers or crew were injured," United confirmed. "Our maintenance team is evaluating damage to the aircraft, and we will investigate how this occurred."
