By ASHLEY NICKEL, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 16:29, 26 July 2026 | Updated: 16:50, 26 July 2026 Victorian Labor Party MPs have called for Premier Jacinta Allan to step down as leader ahead of the Victorian state election in late November. Multiple members from across the party contacted Allan on Sunday night to inform her she'd lost majority support within Labor's ranks, the Australian Financial Review reported. Two sources from within the party claimed tensions growing since February have reached a point of no return, with a contest for leadership set to be held at a caucus meeting Tuesday. Allan was reportedly at her home in Bendigo when she received the news, alongside her senior staffers. Several sources who attended the national Labor event in Adelaide over the weekend claimed multiple meetings were held regarding Allan's leadership. One major focus of concern has been Allan's handling of corruption allegations against unions on the state's Big Build projects. Voter frustration has also boiled over, with both the Coalition and One Nation gaining ground in the polls. Allan last week attended the first day of the three-day Labor national conference in Adelaide, but it was hardly triumphant, with insiders claiming she was compared negatively to other Labor premiers like Chris Minns and Peter Malinauskas.   Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan (above) has reportedly lost the support of her party and will face a leadership challenge this week This week would be the last chance to replace the Labor leader and still give her replacement enough time to run a campaign ahead of the election. 'The more people were at the national conference, and the more they talked about her, the more they said [Allan] is useless,' one Labor source said. Another said it was increasingly certain a leadership spill would be called. 'There are conflicting stories – whether there is a statement on Monday flagging a challenge on Tuesday, or if it happens on Tuesday morning,' they said. 'People from the federal caucus are even frustrated and quite worried about what an electoral wipeout for Victoria will mean for them in the state, too.' In the latest polling Victoria Labor had slumped behind the Coalition on a two-party preferred basis, with the Opposition claiming 56 per cent  to Labor's 44. Its primary vote was also behind that of One Nation's. Support for Labor in Victoria was at 23 per cent, while the Coalition was at 29 per cent and One Nation at 24 per cent.  Allan is due to present a proposal for a commission into organised crime to cabinet on Monday. Critics claim it's a last ditch effort to reset the agenda and claw back support. Allan was reportedly negatively compared to other Labor leaders, NSW Premier Chris Minns (above) and SA Premier Peter Malinauskas It's understood three-quarters of the 69-member Labor caucus will call for Allan to step down. One option senior Labor members are considering is Deputy Premier Ben Carroll announcing his candidacy for Allan's position. The plan would see Carroll announce his bid for leadership on Monday or Tuesday morning, alongside a royal commission into corruption by unions on the Big Build, to immediately differentiate himself from Allan. The caucus' next meeting is slated for Tuesday at 10am. Attorney-General Sonya Kilkenny said Allan had her 'full support' but stopped short of stating whether Allan would lead Labor at the November election.er 'full support', but could not guarantee Allan would lead Labor to the election. 'This is idle gossip, and it's not helping Victorians. It is hurting Victorians,' Kilkenny said.
