ITV The Vardys sparks fierce row as viewers blast 'horrific' series over Coleen Rooney remarks: 'I'm confused!'

Rebekah Vardy has been met with a wave of criticism after viewers had a mixture of strong reactions to her new ITV documentary.

The Vardys, which aired on Tuesday evening, centres around the family's decision to up sticks and leave the UK for Italy following Jamie Vardy's exit from Leicester City.

However, the three-part tell-all series also delved into the pair's private lives away from the cameras as they juggle being parents while maintaining careers in the spotlight.

And that spotlight only intensified in recent years following Ms Vardy's libel case loss against Coleen Rooney in the now-famous "Wagatha Christie" trial.

As the Vardys delved into their lives in the spotlight, the trial inevitably reared its head as they spoke to viewers from their home.

Despite losing her libel case against Ms Rooney, Ms Vardy remained adamant she did nothing wrong and refused to express any remorse.

"I'm never going to apologise for something I didn't do. Hell will freeze over before I do that," she declared in the programme.

The mother-of-five acknowledged she must accept the court's ruling but maintained the judge reached the wrong conclusion.

"I'm living with the judgment the judge made, but, still to this day, I believe she was wrong," Ms Vardy said.

She added that she was "f***ing bored" with the ongoing dispute and had no intention of dwelling on past events.

The feud began in 2019 when Ms Rooney publicly accused Ms Vardy's Instagram account of leaking private information to journalists.

Ms Vardy subsequently launched libel proceedings but lost, leaving her liable for around £1.5 million in legal costs.

Despite Ms Vardy being keen to deliver her side of the story, it's safe to say the overwhelming response from viewers at home was far from sympathetic.

On X, one complaint read: "I mean, Coleen Rooney wiped the floor with her in court, so why is ITV even giving Rebecca Vardy air time? #TheVardys."

"If she didn’t do what she did to Coleen, then why did she lose the court case. Bad loser #TheVardys," a second added.

Elsewhere, a third hit out: "Watching #thevardys and I'm confused. Rebekah playing the victim, but she sued Colleen (and lost), not the other way around?"

And a fourth concurred: "Does Rebekah Vardy forget that she sued Colleen Rooney #TheVardys." (sic)

It wasn't just Ms Vardy who addressed the trial in the new ITV series, as her husband also weighed in on the scandal to defend his wife in the documentary.

"People thinking that Bex was a villain, it's just a load of s***, but everyone close to her knows that's all she needs.

"It was really tough seeing Bex in pain," he said.

Ms Vardy claimed she harbours no ill will towards her former friend, though she acknowledged many would find that difficult to believe.

"I've got no idea what she thinks of me, but I'm not bothered," she remarked.

The three-part series also features dramatic security footage showing the family's £2 million Italian villa being targeted by criminals.

Armed intruders wearing balaclavas broke into the Lake Garda property in 2025, making off with valuables worth around £80,000, including jewellery, cash and a Patek Philippe watch.

"You can clearly see five armed guys with crowbars, balaclavas," Ms Vardy said while reviewing the footage.

She described feeling "totally violated" by the break-in and admitted the experience left her constantly on edge.

Police investigators believed the gang had been monitoring the family and deliberately struck when Mr Vardy was away from the property.
