ITV Britain’s Got Talent finalist, 31, placed into induced coma after mystery health battle

Vinnie McKee, the 31-year-old singer-songwriter from Glasgow who reached last year's Britain's Got Talent final, has disclosed that he was placed into an induced coma following a frightening medical emergency.

The former bingo caller and caravan park worker experienced a severe nosebleed after performing at his headline gig in London on Sunday, which ultimately led doctors to identify a damaged artery

Mr McKee, who became the first Scottish act to earn Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer on the ITV talent competition, shared the news with fans via his Instagram and Facebook accounts from his bed at Warrington Hospital, where he remains in intensive care.

The nosebleed first struck after his performance and grew worse the following day.

Mr McKee was initially seen by medics and sent home, but a second, far heavier bleed began as he made his way back to Scotland.

He was rushed to Warrington Hospital, where doctors identified the damaged artery.

After spending more than 24 hours in A&E and losing a significant amount of blood, the singer was taken into emergency surgery.

During the procedure, Mr McKee aspirated blood and his condition became critical, prompting the medical team to place him in an induced coma in intensive care.

In a post accompanied by photographs showing him connected to medical equipment, Mr McKee told followers: "Thankfully, I woke up yesterday.

"I'm still very weak, but I'm in good hands and hoping to recover fully soon.

"Being able to hug my family again means everything."

The star continued: "I can't thank the incredible staff at Warrington Hospital enough for saving my life, and I'm so grateful for all your messages and support."

Relatives have since been able to visit him at his bedside as he continues his recovery in the intensive care unit.

Mr McKee earned his place in the BGT final after winning Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer with a memorable performance of The Proclaimers' hit I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), becoming the first Scot to receive the honour.

He went on to sing Coldplay's Yellow in the final but finished in eighth place, with magician Harry Moulding taking the crown.

The health update prompted an outpouring of support from friends and fans of the star.

Scottish singer and Love Island star Paige Turley was among those who responded, writing: "OMG this must have been terrifying for you all. Sending lots of love and a speedy recovery, Vinnie." (sic)

Fans of the star were also quick to share their well-wishes.

One person wrote: "Get well soon, Vinnie x."

Another added: "Oh man, get well soon buddy x."

"Gosh, Vinnie! I wish you a speedy recovery! Sending healing vibes xxx," penned a third fan, as a fourth wrote: "Look after yourself... get better soon." (sic)
