It's sky-high! Price of airport pint will hurt your pockets more than your local watering hole
By STIAN ALEXANDER FOR THE MAIL ON SUNDAY Published: 01:37, 14 June 2026 | Updated: 01:40, 14 June 2026 A pint of beer at the airport will set you back 32 per cent more than at your local pub, a study has found. Researchers looking at prices at airports across the UK found the average cost of a pint of lager was £7.24 while the average price of a pint in a UK pub is £5.50. The most expensive was found at Liverpool's John Lennon Airport, where the average beer costs £7.94. Those leaving from Stansted are the luckiest, having to stump up only £6.45 for a pre-flight drink. The research was carried out by price comparison website Idealo. A spokesman said the aim was to find out where Brits off to the World Cup could find the cheapest booze. 'While anticipation for the World Cup is high, supporters are already facing steep expenses, with flights, accommodation and match-related costs adding up. A pre-holiday pint will hit the pockets significantly harder than a drink down your local pub, a study has found (stock image) 'Even pre-flight traditions, like a pint at the airport, can come at a premium.' But football fan Ian Christopher from Liverpool said: 'Pints at the airport are a luxury. I don't think I've ever paid attention to how much I pay as I'm too excited about going away.'
