It's our lives and our country but politicians are playing roulette with it, says Patrick Christys

Hold on to your hats - it's all to play for.

The big news this evening is that Andy Burnham has found a seat - he's going to stand Makerfield - a constituency in Wigan, Greater Manchester.

Here's a recap of another crazy day in British politics. We were told Wes Streeting would resign early this morning.

While we waited, it was party time for Angela Rayner, cleared by HMRC of deliberately avoiding paying £40,000 in tax on her second home.

Then she comes out and play her part in whatever leadership election there may be.

Then eventually, early this afternoon, Wes Streeting quit - saying he'd lost confidence in Keir Starmer. So Wes and Rayner, they're in the race.

While all this was going on, Kemi Badenoch was loving her new found friendship with international pop superstar Nicki Minaj - who retweeted my clip of Kemi roasting Wes Streeting yesterday.

But where was Andy Burnham? He was very quiet. Then Labour sent out Education Minister Bridget Phillipson to defend Keir Starmer to the media.

While all this was going on, it emerged that a newly elected Reform councillor in St Helens, called Stephen Mousdell, is also a gay porn star. There has to be a joke in there somewhere about him knowing how to fill a pothole.

Keir Starmer then, through gritted teeth thanked Wes for his service, wished him well and said he regretted his decision to quit.

Then we had the absolutely mental, ridiculous, frankly disgusting spectacle of the woman who called for Keir Starmer to quit, Catherine West, going on the radio and say she might vote for him in a leadership contest.

I say disgusting because this is just all a game to these people, isn't it? It's our lives, our country we're talking about here. And you've got morons like this playing roulette with it.

As all this is going on, Nigel Farage was busy fending off accusations around a £5million gift he received from a billionaire.

And then it emerged the leader of the Green Party, Zack Polanski, currently facing scrutiny over his tax affairs, didn't even vote in the local elections because he hadn't bothered to get himself registered to vote anywhere!

A Green Party spokesperson said it was because he was concerned about his safety. What a clown show.

And then finally this happened, step forward Andy Burnham. He is now going to try to stand in Makerfield, Wigan - vowing to change the Labour Party and make it a party people can be proud of again.

But he might not get selected by the local Labour members, or the NEC, which rejected him in Gorton and Denton, and he might not win.

Reform are odds on to take the seat if there was a by-election. Nigel Farage has said he's going to throw everything at it, and Lee Anderson isn't worried.

And who replaces Burnham as Mayor of Greater Manchester? You will not believe it, but the rumours are Labour want it to be this guy, Gary Neville!

But what does all this mean?

It could be around six weeks before this by-election, so what happens in the meantime? Six more weeks of Keir Starmer?

What if Burnham loses to Reform? Reform would win a new seat AND they're odds on to win the Greater Manchester Mayor Elections as well!

What a crazy, crazy world, hey!
